چکیده

Knowledge of the structure and interactions of mixed polymer/surfactant colloidal systems is essential for simultaneously controlling the stability and rheological properties of colloidal dispersions such as emulsions and lubricating oils [1, 2]. The surfactant and polymer together provide stability against coagulation and control the viscosity of the ̄uid, the practical aim being to produce highly concentrated dispersions, or ad-packs, that remain stable yet not unmanageably viscous. This requires that the surfactant/polymer additives produce a short-range stabilizing repulsive force between the colloidal particles which overcomes the van der Waals Colloid Polym Sci 277:403±413 (1999) Ó Springer-Verlag 1999 ORIGINAL CONTRIBUTION

Effect of Carbon Nanotube and Surfactant on Processing, Mechanical, Electrical and EMI-Shielding of Epoxy Composites

Dispersing nanoparticles in a polymer matrix is intrinsically challenging due to unfavorable entropic interactions between the matrix and the nanoparticle. In this research dispersion of nanoparticles in polymer matrix was studied and the effect of dispersion on properties was investigated. The properties of polymer composite depend on the type, size, shape, concentration of nanoparticles, and ...

Synthesis and Application of Functionalized Carbon Nanotube Infused Polymer Membrane (fCNT/PSF/PVA) for Treatment of Phenol-Containing Wastewater

In this study, polymer composite membranes comprising carbon nanotube (CNT), polysulfone (PSF) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were synthesized via the phase inversion method and used to remove phenol from the phenol-containing wastewater. The fabricated membranes were reinforced with the functionalized carbon nanotubes (fCNTs) and coated with PVA to enhance their mechanical strength and anti-fouli...

Quantification of amplified quenching for conjugated polymer microsphere systems.

A series of nonaggregating carboxylate-functionalized poly(phenylene ethynylene)s (PPEs) have been synthesized for immobilization via electrostatic adsorption onto Eu3+-polystyrene microspheres with a mean diameter of 0.2 microm. This system is shown to constitute a ratiometric system that measures fluorescence quenching with high fidelity. The fluorescence quenching properties of the polymer-c...

The effect of polymer chain length and surface density on the adhesiveness of functionalized polymersomes.

Giant cell-like polymer vesicles, polymersomes, made from the diblock copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)-polybutadiene (PEO-PBD), have bilayer structures similar to the cell membrane but have superior and tunable properties for storage and stability. We have modified the terminal hydroxyl of the hydrophilic block with biotin-lysine (biocytin), a biologically derived group that imparts specific adhe...

Effect of Competitive Surface Functionalization on Dual-Modality Fluorescence and Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes.

It is well-known that ionic surfactant coated single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) possess higher near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) quantum yield than nonionic polymer functionalized SWNTs. However, the influence of surface functionalization on the magnetic properties of SWNTs for T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has not been reported. Here, we demonstrate that SWNTs functionalize...
